Hedge, Shrub & Palm Trimming

Hedges, shrubs and palms shaped on a schedule that suits each plant, with every clipping hauled away before we leave.

Freshly trimmed hedges and palms

Clean lines without hurting the plant

In Florida, hedges and shrubs grow almost all year, and a property that looked sharp in spring can look overgrown by midsummer. Regular trimming keeps it tidy, but cutting too much, too often or at the wrong time weakens the plant. We shape hedges, prune shrubs and trim palms with each plant’s growth habit in mind, and haul away every clipping before we leave.

What we do

  • Hedge shaping. Straight, even hedges along property lines, walls and walkways, trimmed slightly narrower at the top so the lower branches keep getting light.
  • Shrub pruning. Selective cuts to remove dead, crossing or overgrown branches, keep shrubs away from walls, windows and the AC unit, and keep their natural form.
  • Palm trimming. Removal of dead fronds, seed pods and loose boots, done the way palms tolerate best.
  • Clearance work. Cutting back growth over sidewalks, driveways, signs and irrigation heads that are blocked by foliage.
  • Cleanup and hauling. Clippings, fronds and debris collected and removed, and walks and drives blown clean.

Palms: less is more

A common sight in Florida is the over-trimmed palm, cut back to a few fronds pointing straight up. University of Florida IFAS guidance advises against it: green fronds feed the palm, and removing them can weaken it and lead to nutrient deficiencies. We remove fronds that are completely dead or hanging below horizontal, plus seed pods and flower stalks, and leave the healthy green canopy in place.

How often to trim

  • Formal hedges: usually every four to eight weeks during the growing season, less often in the cooler months.
  • Flowering shrubs: timed around their bloom, so the trim does not remove next season’s flowers.
  • Palms: typically once or twice a year, depending on the species and how fast it drops fronds.

We can set up a recurring schedule or come out for a one-time cleanup.

Wildlife and nesting season

Hedges and palms are popular nesting spots for birds. Active nests of most native birds are protected by federal law, so before trimming we check for active nests and work around them until the young have left.

Frequently asked questions

Do you take the debris away?

Yes. Every visit includes cleanup and hauling of clippings and fronds.

Can you bring an overgrown hedge back into shape?

Usually, yes, but it is better done in stages over a few visits than in one hard cut, which can leave bare, woody gaps. We tell you what to expect from the first visit.

Do you remove trees and stumps?

Yes. We grind stumps and haul debris so the area is ready for new sod or planting. Ask about it when you request your estimate.

Do you offer trimming for HOAs and businesses?

Yes. Trimming is part of our commercial maintenance contracts, on a fixed schedule.
